Six recipients have been presented with pig industry-sponsored scholarships at Harper Adams University by Hugh Crabtree, chairman of the Pig Industry Scholarship Programme (PISP).
Now in its eleventh year the programme has seen more than 50 students spend their placement years with related companies after graduation.
The scheme was set up by the NPA, AHDB and Harper Adams University to encourage skilled people into the pig industry.
“We told each other that we can’t go on whinging about the lack of good people coming into the industry without doing something about it,” said Mr Crabtree (top left), who has been involved with the programme since the beginning.
“Over the years the collaboration has worked really well, but we are still keen to find new potential scholarship sponsors. So, if your company is considering recruiting graduates, come and talk to us – we’d be pleased to introduce you to the enthusiastic talent that is available!”
