Moreton-in-Marsh Show, held at the Gloucestershire town, will have pig classes for the first time on Saturday, September 6.
The classes will include the judging of a number of traditional and modern pig breeds including Gloucestershire Old Spot, Tamworth, Middle White, Large White, British Lop, Welsh, Landrace, Oxford Sandy and Black, Large Black, British Saddleback, Duroc, Hampshire and Berkshire.Â
The breed classes will culminate in the afternoon with the presentation of the championship trophy and rosette to the show interbreed champion and reserve champion.
The Oxford Sandy and Black Pig societies have announced that they’ll use the Show as a qualifier for their Champion of Champions Competition taking place at the Royal Berkshire Show later in September.
In addition to the breed classes, there’ll also be two age groups of Young Handler classes, with entries being taken on the day of the Show.
BPA judges officiating in the inaugural pig classes are: Viki Mills from Devon, Jonathan Cloke from Solihull and Phil Fowlie from Anglesey.
Show chairman James Coker said he was extremely pleased to be able to introduce pig classes for the very first time to the show.
“It will add a new dimension to our livestock section and will give our visitors an interesting insight in to the world of pig breeding,” he added.
