Georgina Crayford to leave NPA for new Red Tractor role

After four years of service at the NPA, Georgina Crayford will be taking up a brand new role at Red Tractor Assurance in February.

In what is a critical time for the assurance scheme as it undergoes a revamp that will see the rolling out of the risk-based inspection regime, she will take up the post of technical manager for pigs and poultry in February.

Georgina joined the NPA in October 2014, having previously worked for AHDB Pork, where she was involved with the delivery of the Real Welfare scheme.

In her time as a senior policy advisor at the NPA, she has represented the pig industry on a variety of issues, specialising in pig health and welfare. She has played a leading role in the industry drive to reduce and refine antibiotic use in the pig sector, authoring the Antibiotic Stewardship Programme in 2016 and updating it this year. She recently completed a Nuffield Scholarship, having travelled the world to learn lessons about antibiotic use in the pig sector.

The NPA is now advertising for the senior policy advisor post, which will be home-based but with some time spent at the NPA’s headquarters in Warwickshire.

NPA chief executive Zoe Davies said: “We are really sorry to see Georgina go and we wish her all the very best at Red Tractor. She has done a huge amount for the sector over the past four years and is an absolute fount of knowledge on many issues of great importance to this industry. She will be missed, but we are pleased that she at least staying in the industry!”

“It is an exciting role that she is vacating and we urge anyone who thinks they have the drive, skills and, above all, passion to join our small by highly effective team, then I urge you to take a look at the advert and get in touch.”

Georgina said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the NPA, during which I’ve had the delight of working with a fabulous team (who I am going to miss dearly) and getting to know producer and allied industry members.

“Over the years I’ve gained enormous satisfaction representing members’ views in Westminster, in Brussels and to retailers – especially when we’ve succeeded in securing a win!

“A highlight for me is certainly the NPA team winning the Chris Brant Award in 2016 at the end of what had been a particularly tough year dealing with animal rights activity and pressure on the industry’s antibiotic use.”

“I’m pleased that although I’m changing jobs, I will still be working closely with this brilliant sector and I hope that I will be able to drive positive change for it from within Red Tractor, which I firmly believe remains vitally important to the pig industry.”
