Wiltshire outdoor sale was Peter Crichton’s largest

Buyers from the South-west, Kent, East Anglia and the Midlands turned up at for one of the largest sales Peter Crichton has ever conducted when he auctioned the outdoor pig equipment for Teffont Magna Pigs in Wiltshire on July 5.

The sale was headed by four tractors that had all been owned from new and sold ahead of expectations. The top price of £23,000 was paid for a 2012 New Holland 5050 4WD tractor with Quickie Q45 hydraulic loader and 2,232 hours on the clock. It was closely followed at £21,600 for another New Holland 5050 with a Quickie 35 loader on a 2011 plate with 4,370 hours recorded.

The third New Holland in the sale was a New Holland 5050 on a 2010 plate with 7,129 hours recorded that made £16,300, while a 20-year-old Ford 5030 4WD tractor with Quickie 2030 loader (hours unrecorded) sold for £6,700.

High-level side discharge bulk bins met an exceptionally firm demand, with a 22t Collinson selling at selling at £4,650, £4,000 was paid for a 16t Sterling and £1,350 for a Sterling 9t bin. A useful selection of outdoor pig machinery was topped by a 20ft Glendale Hydralift trailer selling at £5,300 and there was also plenty of demand for Peter Allen Rotafeeders, with a 4t model selling for £4,300 and a 3t example at £4,100.

The sale included over 300 farrowing and dry-sow huts, 19 Hudson flat-packed sow barns, selling between £380 and £490 according to condition. Two AI tents with internal gates and fittings each realised £680, 5 ring John Booth dry-sow arcs sold to £150 and 4 ring examples to £130. Large 20ft service arcs sold between £200 and £270 each. John Booth insulated weaner arks sold between £210 and £220 and sectional timber weaner arks sold to £110 each.

A huge selection of over 200 farrowing arcs saw 100 John Booth plywood farrowing kennels selling for between £130 and £230 each, according to condition and 80 older Challow farrowing kennels fetched from £30 to £65 per lot.

Over 200 fenders, which were generally in used condition, sold in the main between £15 and £20. 65 IAE 6ft galvanised double-ended drinking troughs in near new condition sold well, within a narrow range between £55 and £75 each.

A useful selection of fencing and sundry equipment was headed by 100 galvanised 12ft gates that averaged £35 each, QE heavy duty outdoor sow Adlib hoppers fetched £140, 6ft plastic grower and finisher hoppers met plenty of demand selling between £65 and £95, electric fencing stakes, wire and rope also sold readily with mains and battery fencing units selling to £55, hurdles sold to £150 per lot, a 5,000 litre water tank £300, DAB pumps to £100, AI cool boxes to £60.
