The European Parliament’s younger members, those aged under 40, are set to meet in Brussels next week to debate the environmental sustainability of livestock production.
Organised by the EU40 network, which includes 98 cross-party MEPs, the debate will focus on how to improve the impact of livestock on the environment and climate and how to foster innovation in R&D, both in terms of policy and at farm level.
The meeting has already drawn participation commitments from two leading UK and Ireland delegates, namely FEFAC’s chairman of the PEP pilot project on feed, Nick Major, and the meat and livestock division director of Ireland’s Board Bia, Jim O’toole.
The keynote speech at the meeting, meanwhile, will be given by the director for general aspects of rural development and research, DG AGRI, Aldo Longo.
The event, which will be held on April 27, is backed by Elanco Animal Health.
