The proportion of British pork products displayed on UK retail shelves in January was at its highest level for a number of years, according to the latest AHDB Porkwatch survey.

The figure for pork, in particular, has been rising steadily in recent years, increasing from 78% in January 2020.
The January 2026 survey showed Aldi, Co-op, Lidl, M&S, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s all stocked 100% British pork, with Waitrose on 99% (100% own label), Tesco 84% and Asda 64%. Iceland was on just 2%.
Cp-op and M&S also stocked 100% British bacon, followed by Waitrose (93%) and Sainsbury’s (78%), with Lidl (19%) and Aldi (22%) among those more reliant on imports.

M&S (98%) and Co-op (94%) led the way on ham followed by Waitrose (87%) and Sainsbury’s (79%). At the other end of the scale, Morrisons (40%), Lidl (38%), Asda (37%) and Iceland (13%) had a minority of British ham on display.
For sausage, M&S (100%), Aldi (97%) Waitrose (96%) and Lidl (93%) displayed the highest proportion of British, with all other retailers (bar Iceland) stocking at least 70% British.

Separate data from Worldpanel by Numerator UK, summarised by AHDB, showed retail pigmeat volumes were up just 0.2% year on year in the 12 weeks to January 25, with spend up 1.9% on the back of higher prices, helped by increased demand for pork at Christmas.
Primary pigmeat volumes were up 2.8% over this period, but processed volumes declined by 1%.
