Pig industry stalwart, Hugh Crabtree, has received his well-deserved MBE for ‘services to the pig industry’.
Hugh received his honour from the Princess Royal at Windsor Castle on January 13. Accompanied by his wife, Julie and daughters, Sophie and Alice, his very brief discussion with the Princess Royal was, he says, mostly about the indoor/outdoor split within the industry and the need to get the balance right regarding providing the right environment for intensively-housed pigs.
“Absolutely right, Ma’am!” he told her.
Hugh, the founder and director of Frarmex and the NPA’s allied industry chair and vice chair for many years, is a former winner of the prestigious Chris Brant and David Black Awards.
He is currently an AHDB pig sector board member and is involved in various key industry policy areas, including AHDB’s environmental roadmap and changes to pig farrowing systems.
