EU outlook event to address “agriculture at the crossroads”

EU farm commissioner, Phil Hogan, and US secretary for agriculture, Tom Vilsack, will headline next month’s EU Agricultural Outlook Conference in Brussels when they will lead a keynote discussion on the challenges facing the farm sector.

Working to an overall theme of “EU agriculture at the crossroads”, the two-day programme will also include a session on food chain issues. This will feature presentations on the impact of concentration in the retail and food industry; tackling unfair trading practices and a consideration of whether a voluntary or legislative approach is needed to improve food chain matters.

The event will obviously also feature it’s traditional delivery of the latest outlook projections for EU dairy, meat and arable crop markets for the next ten years.

The specialist meat session will look at the main challenges and prospects for the EU meat sector, meat consumption and the environmental foot-print of meat production.

Four hundred stakeholders are expected to take part in the conference, which will be held on December 1 and 2 in the Charlemagne building in Brussels. It will be possible to follow the proceedings live via web-streaming.
