ConTented Pig Products will launch a new solar powered electric livestock fencer and power pack unit at the Cereals Event at Oxfordshire’s Diddly Squat Farm on June 11 and 12.
The new self-contained Contented Stock-Aid Fence Station will energise electric fencing in paddocks and fields without a mains power supply or the need to repeatedly recharge and change batteries.
The unit is powered by a large 160-watt photocell and battery power pack, all contained within a purpose-designed moulded shell, complete with integral forklift tine slots to move around sites.
Designed by Norfolk pig Farmer, Rob McGregor, the unit will supply ample energy to work through short winter days, he said. A high-capacity regulator balances voltage and avoids overcharging during sunny days.
“The self-contained unit is designed to reliably power long lengths of fencing, without the constant chore of replacing conventional batteries. The purpose designed container unit, made from recycled plastic, ensures it is fully weatherproof and secure,” he added.
Fencing can be hardwired direct into the unit for enhanced reliability. The unit can be fully recycled and, combined with the solar power generation, further adds to a pig unit’s business sustainability plan.
The battery unit also provides a highly versatile electric power source for ancillary lights, refrigerated medication store or other equipment. The 100 Ah battery has been selected to enable repeated discharge and fast recharging cycles.
Contented said its Stock-Aid Fence Station can be remotely monitored from a smartphone app, ‘to provide users with fingertip control and confidence that it is all working reliably’, and is equally useful for all farm livestock electric fencing systems and long-term woodland deer fencing.
Manufactured and built in the UK, the Contented Stock-Aid Fence Station is available now, or meet the team at the Cereals event on stand 1180.
Many of the company’s products are already in use by the Cereals host farm’s Diddly Squat pig herd, including the innovative Clarkson’s ring designed to protect newborn piglets.
