There have been significant falls in barley straw prices in some parts of Britain in the past week as the barley harvest got underway in earnest.
The British Hay & Straw Merchants’ Association reported that its members ex-farm buying in prices for barley straw fell by £16/t to £45 in the South; £12/t to £48 in the North-east; £5/t to £40 in the South-east; and £3/t to £45 in the East Midlands.
The availability of new-season barley also resulted in wheat straw falling £11/t to £35 ex-farm in the South and £10/t to £40 in the North-east.
