In the latest issue of Pig World, Ladies in Pigs chairwoman Debbie Wilson sets an exciting few months ahead for LIPs and makes a plea for new members.
Watch out folks, the ladies are back at the Fair! And we have another exciting development to unveil to visitors.
As the biennial British Pig and Poultry Fair approaches, the team at LIPs are excited to be returning to the event at its new home, the NEC, in Birmingham.
At the last event, we unveiled our primary level educational games, which they use across the UK, to show how food is farmed. Everyone was thrilled with this development in our educational programme, and this continues to go from strength to strength.
We will be displaying our new development at the Fair – come and visit to find out – as well as highlighting successes over the last two years. We have managed to maintain a high quality of provision whilst increasing the number and location of our events.
The programme we offer is inclusive to all ages and learning environments – including alternative provision, with feedback leading to four other sites requesting visits after the first one!
And as I have often said, every day is a school day – so events are not solely down to education settings, but include shows, WI demonstrations and even food theatre demonstrations.
Each year, I and my team work tirelessly to educate and promote the great British pig industry and its allied partners, and I feel that the fair is an excellent opportunity to discuss how we can help each other further.
Such partnerships include the ongoing support from Pig World, where LIPs will pop in from time to time with updates, recipes, and much more.
However, we are sometimes victims of our own success, and as a result, we are always on the look out for new members, to help us fulfil our commitments. As a result, I am always on the look-out for new members to join the team.
We are looking for anyone, from any walk of life, who is enthusiastic about British food, and wants to spread the word. We are, as we have always been, a varied group of ladies (and gents) from different walks of life, but with one passion – British food!
Take a look at your membership area, using the QR code, if you are interested in finding out more.
I will be joined by two of our newer members, who have contributed so much to the work that has been done – both come from diverse backgrounds, but they are definitely passionate about what LIPs stands for, testament to the team behind me.
I will be on the panel in the Pig Theatre both mornings of the Fair talking about LIPs work, and you will have a chance to stop by and try some sausage roll samples, whilst listening! If you can’t make it there, pop in at some point to have a catch-up with the ladies.
- The Ladies in Pigs are situated on stand 11-262, see you there!
