Keeping producers ahead of the game with genetics that fit their systems

The background for Hendrix Genetics Swine is one of innovation, authenticity and progress, built on a strong heritage, according to Andrew Lunn, the company’s UK project manager.

The Netherlands-based company formed in 2025, when established breeding companies Hypor and Danish Genetics officially united under the Hendrix Genetics Swine banner. This merger created a ‘global leader in swine breeding, blending tradition with cutting-edge R&D, global reach with local proximity, and a clear vision for the future, coupled with decades of experience”, Mr Lunn said.

The company has multi-species expertise, which, he added, enables it to offer ‘one of the most comprehensive portfolios in the industry and deliver genetics that meet the highest expectations for performance, welfare and sustainability’.

“Today, our mission is clear: to keep producers ahead of the game by providing solutions that fit their systems, driving progress and delivering value across the pork value chain,” he said.

“We understand that producers operate within unique systems and markets, and a single solution cannot fit all. That is our major differentiating factor: we can listen because we have options – and match our extensive portfolio to their specific needs.

“In Denmark, where there is a strong competitive market, we’re ahead by three to five years. Since 2018, Danish genetics have focused on balanced breeding goals: robustness, efficiency and survival rate, rather than productivity alone.

“This forward-thinking and pragmatic approach aligns with sustainability objectives and animal welfare standards, setting a benchmark for others. For UK producers, this means access to genetics that are not just productive, but future-ready.”

Robustness and resilience

With nearly half of UK pig production taking place outdoors, robustness and resilience are key.

  • Hypor Libra: Selected to be the most efficient sow, the Hypor Libra combines productivity with durability and is well known for specific traits like robustness, behaviour and mothering ability. The sow consistently produces uniform, healthy piglets with heavier birth weights, ensuring high-quality finishers that add value across the chain. For producers seeking balance between traits, it offers efficiency without compromise, the company said.
  • F1 Nexus 100: For more conventional or alternative systems, the Nexus 100 sow provides tailored solutions. With the first product resulting directly from the 2025 merger, it brings strong maternal traits and robust piglet vitality, optimised for sow longevity and litter performance, helping producers achieve efficiency and sustainability together, the company said.
  • Danish Hybrid: Described as the ideal production sow for slaughter pig operations, key traits include low feed consumption, high growth rates, excellent fertility and superior carcase quality to deliver ‘outstanding production returns’. The sow’s longevity and parenting skills help maximise effectiveness.
  • Hypor Kanto boar: With the UK market having a distinctive niche for premium pork, the Hypor Kanto boar is designed for exceptional meat quality, consistently exceeding expectations in both domestic and export markets.

The benefits include heavier piglets that consume more colostrum, thriving through weaning to become uniform, full-value finishers.

“Its superior marbling gives producers a clear advantage for high-value cuts, while its status as our fastest-growing sire line ensures finishers reach market weight in fewer days, adding real economic value,” Hendrix said.

“Combining speed, quality, and consistency, it is the ideal choice for UK producers looking to operate in this premium segment.”

Local partnerships

Mr Lunn said the company’s commitment to the UK industry goes beyond genetics, describing its attendance at November’s National Pig Awards as a ‘fantastic opportunity to connect with key players in the UK pig industry and beyond’.

To serve the UK market, Hendrix has recently strengthened its presence through a strategic collaboration with Rattlerow, which it described as ‘one of the major insemination players in the region’.

“Since late 2024, we’ve worked together to bring top-tier genetics to British breeders, and in September 2025, this partnership reached a new level with the introduction of Danish Duroc boar semen, renowned for its exceptional genetic quality,” Mr Lunn said.

“This collaboration reflects our shared ambition: to deliver the best possible solutions for UK producers. We look forward to working closely with UK producers in 2026 and beyond and offering real choice.”
