The Pig Hub, a one-stop-shop for pig producers to access all their contact details and online services, such as eAML2, is being launched on June 18.
Developed by BPEX, it’s a single pig industry database for all producers. Individual farmers will have access to their details that they can edit and amend, and they will also have control over who can see their information.Â
The objective is to have a single, accurate database for the industry that keeps abreast of changes in ownership or management of individual pig units.
Te Pig Hub will interlink with Defra’s eAML2, and ultimately with the Real Welfare database.
BPEX database manager Jenny Newman said the first time a producer uses eAML2 after June 18, they’ll need to allow a few minutes to check all their details are correct, which is vital for the smooth running of the system.
“Once that has been done, they should notice no difference as the process of entering a movement is unchanged,” she added.
To get everything up and running for June 18, the eAML2 service will not be available overnight on June 17.
“Not only will Pig Hub have the address, but also the assurance number, the vet practice and who’s authorised to see that information,” Ms Newman added.” For example, a large multisite pig business might have somebody at head office responsible for all the eAML2 movements so that person would need access to the information for all the units linked to that corporate business, such as contract finishing sites.
“The Pig Hub runs in conjunction with eAML2 and a producer’s current login details will also provide access to the Pig Hub and BPEX online services, so no new passwords will be required.
“However, checking details will only have to be done the first time and thereafter much of the eAML2 required information will be pre-populated on the form making the whole procedure much quicker and easier.”
