The Vion Food Group has named Frans Stortelder as the new chief operating officer (COO) of its pork business.
Mr Stortelder succeeds Godert Tegelberg in a move which the company says reflects an increased focus on “optimal value creation” through the livestock processed by Vion Food.
The Dutch company also said it expects to be able to significantly improve results through a “better alignment of its significant supply base to global market demand”, gaining increased access to major export markets including China, USA, Japan, Korea and Australia.
“Mr Stortelder has already proved his worth within the meat sector and has achieved good results,” said the company. “This makes him the obvious choice to further develop this project within Vion Food.”Â
Mr Tegelberg will continue to work for Vion, focusing on group-wide projects concerning the export markets and the further integration of Vion Food’s German operations. Â
Changes to Vion’s pork operations in Holland and Germany have also been reported with the group said to be set to reduce the number of its abattoirs to three in Holland, three in Northern Germany and four in Southern Germany. This, it’s believed, would increase capacity utilisation from 70% to 90%.
Vion currently slaughters 15.5m pigs annually in the Netherlands and Germany.Â
