Auctioneer, Peter Crichton, has reported a successful dispersal sale at South Lynch Estates in Dorset, with buyers from throughout the south west combing to deliver a “total clearance” result for all the pig equipment on offer.

According to a sale summary from Mr Crichton (pictured) a selection of farm machinery, including four Ford New Holland compact tractors, “all in rough to incomplete condition” gained a top price of £1,520 for a model 1720.  The first of two 1920 models sold for £1,250 and £700 (non-runner) while £1,300 was paid for a 1520 example.

Machinery used on the pig unit sold to £1,000 for a large Hydralift trailer “requiring attention” and a smaller model in similar condition made £750. A slurry tanker sold for £1,030 and a choice of bowsers in various condition met a “ready demand”.

A selection of 12-tonne Kirncroft bulk bins averaged £565, with prices varying according to condition. A Peter Allen 6-tonne auger trailer “looked good value” at £750 while other prices included a Kverneland Straw 720 machine at £360, with Quad trailers selling to £190.

Although most of the pig housing was in “average to fair condition only” every lot was sold, with 4 x 20ft Challow weaner arcs selling to £450; 25 x 16ft Challow weaner arcs going for between £150 and £330, according to condition; groups of up to ten 8ft weaner hut hurdles selling for between £245 and £250 per lot, for galvanised types, and from £65 to £120, for steel.

Three ring farrowing arcs, which were “generally showing their age”, were easily sold between £40 and £65, while four ring dry sow arcs, all in “generally fair to poor condition”, realised £26 – £50, although some required “further repair”.

A selection of Peter Allen creep & nut feeders, some of which “needed repair”, sold in groups of six for between £100 and £160; 4ft drinking troughs changed hands between £20 and £28 and 8ft troughs in “generally poorer condition” made up to £20 per lot.

Useful lots of fencing equipment, including fencing stakes, corner posts, wire and insulators were also sold readily to local buyers, while groups of plastic hoppers were easily sold between £130 and £190 per lot of 16. A 16ft x 16ft pig tent AI centre made £420 and Robusta arcs went to £130 each.

Peter Crichton’s next auction of indoor pig equipment takes place at Martlesham, near Woodbridge, Suffolk, on May 16.
