Producers are making good use of the training opportunities provided by AHDB Pork with “hundreds” visiting the organisation’s website each month to source a range of training packages.
The most popular single page in June was the Pig Industry Professional Register (PIPR), although visitor traffic was also high for the pig industry scholarship and the Human Resources toolkit.
“Training is vital as the staff are the single most important element contributing to the profitability and sustainability of a pig unit,” said AHDB Pork’s skills development co-ordinator, Sam Bowsher (pictured above).
“Ours is a professional industry and training is a way of demonstrating the high standards maintained on pig farms.”
Key elements of the organisation’s pig industry training strategy are:
- Recruit: Provide and promote an attractive environment for a progressive career within allied industries
- Retain: Promote skills development as vital to business improvement
- Reward: Promote recognition of achievement to motivate staff
