PEDv spread continues in Canada

A fourth Canadian province, Quebec, has now confirmed the presence of the PED virus in pigs.

Quebec’s agriculture ministry confirmed its first case on Sunday.

Canadian cases had already been confirmed in Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Manitoba.

Quebec’s first case of PEDv was detected in test samples from a herd on a farm south of Montreal. The pigs have no clinical signs of the illness, but agriculture ministry officials have put the farm under quarantine to prevent the virus from spreading.

The agriculture ministry is closely monitoring other pork producers in Quebec and have an action plan in place working with partners from the province’s pork industry.
