Canada’s leading foodservice and hospitality expo, Restaurants Canada (RC), will become a platform for British pork, lamb and beef.

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and an export business will showcase local product in Toronto from April 8 to 10.

The show, expected to welcome over 22,000 visitors from around the world, will provide opportunities to connect British meat with key buyers, influencers and operators.

Susana Morris, AHDB senior trade development manager, said: “We are delighted to be taking part in the RC Show again to shine a spotlight on quality beef, lamb and pork from Britain.

“Canadian consumers are increasingly interested in the origin of the food in their diets. They also have a relatively high disposable income to purchase high-quality products that our producers and processors are well placed to supply.”

Recent analysis from AHDB shows the potential for premium UK red meat across Canada, differentiated from domestic production.

In 2023, the UK exported various meat products to Canada, including 2,097 tonnes of beef worth £10m, 812 tonnes of pork worth £2.5m and 619 tonnes of sheep meat worth £2.6m.

The RC show caps a busy period for the AHDB export team in America, showcasing British pork offal and meat at ExpoANTAD in Mexico and the Annual Meat Conference in Nashville.

Susana added: “Four exporters joined us in Mexico for Expo ANTAD which attracted a record 40,000 visitors and led to positive meetings during the show and off stand.

“With increasing pig meat consumption in Mexico, the long-term prospects for British pork in this market are encouraging.

“Similarly, AMC gave us the opportunity to showcase high quality British beef, lamb and pork as well as providing us and the four beef and lamb exporters that joined us valuable insight into market trends in the US that they can capitalise on.”
