Cranswick and OLIO, the food sharing app, are inviting the local Hull community to join them in confronting seasonal levels of food waste and growing numbers of those in need this Christmas.
As part of their ongoing commitment to the local community, OLIO and Cranswick will be working together with local charities such as the EMS Hull Community Shop and Freedom Food programme at the Freedom Centre, which provides nutritious ready meals for underprivileged families, to redistribute surplus food to those in need this December.
Cranswick is providing fresh produce to make up to 50 chilled, nutritious ready meals per day, which are created at the Freedom Centre and distributed to 10 community fridges located around Hull.
Chris Aldersley, chief operating officer at Cranswick, said: “It’s great to see our investment in this project resulting in a major difference in our local community, tackling food waste and giving back to those in need.
“At the beginning of the year, it was clear that our employees considered food waste one of the most important issues for us to tackle and we have thoroughly enjoyed building the food waste network across Hull over the past few months. We look forward to seeing what we can achieve with OLIO in 2019.”
