More speakers have been confirmed for May’s Pigs Tomorrow conference, as an exciting and varied programme takes shape.

The popular two-day Pigs Tomorrow takes place in Leicestershire in May – and both days are totally free for levy-paying pig producers,

Organised by Pig World and AHDB, the conference includes an exciting and engaging programme of conference speakers, a gala dinner, including entertainment, a busy exhibition area and overnight accommodation.

Rupert Claxton, Gira

Kicking off day one will be global meat expert Rupert Claxton, who has more than 20 years of experience with Gira, directing livestock and meat sector research and consultancy assignments across four continents.

He will be joined by AHDB analysts David Eudall and Freya Shuttleworth for a Global Outlook session, as they set the scene with a global overview, delivering insights into how different markets are faring and the big issues that are shaping the international pork trade.

Pig farm trade-offs

We are also delighted to announce that Dr Harriet Bartlett, a research fellow at the University of Oxford specialising in ‘sustainable farming solutions that benefit people, the planet and pigs’, will be speaking.

She will discuss some ground-breaking findings from the largest study of its kind in the pig sector. With data collected from over 150 pig farms across the UK and Brazil, she assessed the effects of a broad range of pig farming systems on climate, biodiversity, antimicrobial use and animal welfare. Her findings challenge the notion that trade-offs between these priorities are unavoidable.

She will be joined in a session on how the global and domestic pig sector is addressing the sustainability challenge by Lisbeth Henricksen, executive director at the Danish Seges Innovation institute, who will deliver the Danish perspective.

Alongside them, award-winning outdoor producer Rob McGregor, of LSB Pigs, will discuss some of the pioneering environmental work on his Norfolk unit.

Day one will also feature prominent speakers from the UK supply chain, discussing how the sector navigates the next steps on the road to recovery.

The two-day conference will also feature a session on flexible farrowing and how pig businesses can better look after, retain and attract staff, while our popular Young Guns panel, featuring the pig farmers of the future, will return.

More speakers will be announced over the next few weeks and months.

As always, there will be plenty of networking opportunities, including a gala dinner with entertainment at the end of day one.

There will be a busy exhibition area, including our latest sponsor, Cargill, alongside many other key industry companies and organisations.
