Pigs 2022 – bringing the industry together

Pigs 2022 – the Opportunities is not just about the great speakers lined up over the two-day event and the conference sessions on a range of topics of interest to anyone connected to the industry.

Organisers Pig World and AHDB Pork have gone to great lengths to ensure it will provide an unprecedented opportunity to network and socialise with peers from the UK and beyond.

The conference, which takes place in Solihull, in June, will bring together producers, representatives from all parts of the supply chain and industry experts from across the world.

The International Outlook Conference on Day One will begin with lunch and finish with a gala dinner at the St Johns Hotel.

We are delighted to announce that the guest speaker for the night will be Sir Christopher Meyer, the former British Ambassador to the US and former chairman of the Press Complaints Commission. An interesting and entertaining night is guaranteed!

What do consumers want from pork?
The consumer is arguably the most influential player in the pig business. Ultimately, if they like the product they will buy it. If they don’t, they won’t.

During the final session of the International Outlook Conference, McDonald’s UK director of supply chain Connor McVeigh will discuss the key things consumers want from the global food giant’s pork and how consumer demands are shifting over time.

Delegates will also hear from Cranswick Country Foods chief executive Adam Couch, who will explain how the pork processing sector is responding to changing consumer demands.

He will also consider the future for British pork in a changing global market.

That, of course, very much depends on the deal we get from Brexit and, during the same session, delegates will hear from another top industry speaker, who will try and make sense of how it might all pan out for the agricultural sector.

There will be plenty of additional networking opportunities over the two days and ample time to take in the various trade stands representing some of the industry’s most important players that will be on display throughout.

Much of the conference programme has been designed to give delegates the chance to discuss innovation, technology and ideas with each other.

AHDB’s Charlotte Evans highlighted parallel sessions on Day Two, the Innovation Conference, that will give delegates the option of attending sessions on ‘The Sow of the Future’ or ‘Meat of the Future’.

Charlotte said: “These sessions are all about implementing new technology and demonstrating how some people are using innovation to drive their businesses forward. We want this conference to enable producers to hear how fellow producers are getting on and to discuss opportunities and overcoming barriers to progress.”

Pig World publisher Simon Lewis added: “We have put in place a great line-up of speakers that will entertain and inspire delegates.

“But a massive part of this event will be bringing people together from all parts of the industry and all parts of the globe to meet, talk business – and enjoy themselves. I was struck when someone mentioned recently that there just aren’t that many events any more that bring the whole industry together. Pigs 2022 aims to change that!”
